Product Descriptions

Metal powders such as gold, silver, copper, nickel or aluminum, are used as electrically and thermally conductive fillers for polymeric compositions. Although gold and silver show excellent conductivity, they have the problem for industry due to the high price. Among these metals, copper is relatively cheaper than gold and silver and displays good electrical conductivities. Bioneer provides AccuNanoWire™ Copper Nanowire made of copper as well as AccuNanoWire™ Silver Coated Copper Nanowire with increased oxidation resistance by silver coatings.

Features of Using Copper Nanowires

There is growing interest in pursuit of one-dimensional (1D) metal nanostructures such as nanorods (NRs), nanowires (NWs), and nanotubes (NTs) for a variety of applications including plasmonics, nanoelectronics, chemical sensors, and biotechnology. In particular, copper NWs are being explored as inexpensive, electrically conducting additives to composites and transparent conducting electrodes for solar cell and flexible electronic devices.

Features of Using Silver Coated Copper Nanowires

Silver coating provides oxidation resistance and improves electrical conductivity of copper nanowire when exposed for a long time in the air or to high temperature. Therefore, this is very useful for highly conductive paste in electromagnetic interference (EMI) shielding application.

High Oxidative Stability and Heat Stability
In order to use a nanowire as an electronic material, it should have a thermal and oxidation stability. Silver coated copper nanowire shows invariably excellent electrical conductivity due to the anti-oxidation property in air or at high temperature (200℃).

Economic Efficiency as Electrical Conductive Materials
Because silver coated copper nanowire is core-shell structure, it reduces price compared to silver powder or silver nanowire for various applications. Moreover, it can form uniformly interconnected networks when manufacturing conductive paste. Therefore, silver coated copper nanowire has excellent electrical conductivity despite using a small amount than silver nano-particles.

Properties of AccuNanoWire

1) SEM and TEM Images
Figure 1. Copper nanowire images using SEM. The diameter of copper nanowires used as the core for silver coated copper nanowire, is 100~300 nm and the length of copper nanowires is 5~7 μm.

Figure 2. Silver coated copper nanowire images using TEM and SEM. The diameter of silver coated copper nanowire is 100~400 nm, the length of copper nanowire is 5~7 μm.

2) EDS Analysis of Silver Coated Copper Nanowires by TEM
Figure 3. EDS Analysis of Silver Coated Copper Nanowires by TEM. As the result of EDS analysis, silver coated copper nanowires is composed of Cu and Ag. Moreover, it is not oxidized in the air due to the analysis result without oxigen peak. Ni peak is a component of the TEM grid for analysis.

3) EDS Scanning Analysis of Silver Coated Copper Nanowires by TEM
Figure 4. EDS Scanning Analysis of Silver Coated Copper Nanowires by TEM. The result of EDS scanning analysis shows that silver is coated on the surface of copper nanowires. This result means that the outside of copper nanowire has silver coating layer.

4) A Cross Section Analysis of Silver Coated Copper Nanowires by FIB(Focused ion beam)-SEM
Figure 5. A Cross Section Analysis of Silver Coated Copper Nanowires by FIB (Focused ion beam)-SEM. The result of a cross section analysis shows that silver is coated on the surface of copper nanowires. This copper nanowire has silver coating layer of about 47 nm thickness.
